Southeast Asia was confronted by a range of security challenges, including internal conflicts, the threat of terrorism, and geopolitical tensions, as last week’s headlines showed. Several countries in the region were grappling with domestic insurgencies and violence, while also addressing the risks of terrorism and the complexities of regional power dynamics, including maritime disputes.

Thailand dealt with ongoing violence in its southern regions. A recent bombing and gun attack resulted in injuries, underscoring the persistent security challenges. The Thai government was in the process of finalising its strategy for peace in the Deep South, indicating a commitment to finding a resolution to the conflict.

The Philippines continued to grapple with internal conflict, primarily involving communist insurgents. The government pursued a dual-track approach, emphasising both military action and peace initiatives.
